NEW owners of a hotel say they want to transform its fortunes to help make it a “centrepiece of the town”.
Business partners Paul Andrews and Diane Doran bought Portland Hall Hotel on the edge of Carr Bank Park last month.
They have already changed its name to Mansfield Manor and are planning a major £200,000 refurbishment of all areas in a bid to restore its tarnished reputation.
The previous owners of the 11-bedroom venue were fined last year for failing to carry out vital work, while couples have been left devastated over the years in a series of cancelled weddings and wedding receptions.
Paul Andrews said: “It’s going to be a professionally-run hotel, we want to make it a real centrepiece for Mansfield.
“We know there were issues with weddings, but we have 18 planned and we will honour all of them.
“We saw the potential in this place which has not been utilised for a long time. We are going to throw everything at this.
“We have had lots of support from the council and neighbours, I think they are just pleased that it’s going to be transformed.”
Built in 1805 as a private house, it has only been run as a hotel over the past 20 years.
Meanwhile, the new owners are planning to re-open the restaurant area next month for Sunday lunches.
