BUDDING young actors from the Ashfield area have the opportunity to tread the boards as part of a new youth theatre group being set up in Kirkby.
New Youth Theatre is launching its fourth junior group in September, with classes set to be held at Community Centrepoint on Diamond Avenue.
This group will be the fourth that New Youth Theatre runs, with groups already established in Mansfield, Bestwood and West Bridgford.
The young actors who sign up for the group will be working towards performing a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, which all groups will stage at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold.
Neil and Vicky Butler are the artistic and musical directors at New Youth Theatre and said that the main aim of the groups is for the young people to have fun and develop theatre skills.
They said: “The New Youth Theatre concept is simple. Children are taught how to develop and improve their performing arts skills whilst rehearsing for a fully-staged musical.
“This unique approach to musical theatre brings children of all ages together to enjoy learning new skills, have fun and be onstage.”
There will be two groups in Kirkby working on the production - a Tiny Tots class for three to five -year-olds and a junior class for six to 11-year-olds.
Rehearsals will take place on Thursday evenings and the production will be staged at the end of November. A taster session will be held on Saturday 25th August. For more information, call Neil or Vicky on 01623 406284 or visit www.newyouththeatre.co.uk/mansfield.
