A hospice is calling for people to go that extra mile to support one of its biggest ever fundraisers.
John Eastwood Hospice is to hold a ‘Mansfield Moonlight & Memories Walk’ in the summer, and are calling on people to lace up their trainers and walking boots and get involved.
Organised between John Eastwood and the Rainbow Hospice in Loughborough, it will involve walking a 3.7 mile circular route starting and ending at Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium.
The money raise will go towards the upkeep of the hospice, which receives no Government funding.
Last year a £200,000 roof renovation was completed at the Mansfield Road building, while more cash is now needed to refurbish the visitors’ toilets at a cost of £20,000, and replace patients’ special beds - which can cost up to £10,000 each.
“We want as many people as possible to take part, the more sponsors we can get, the better,” said fundraising officer, Yvonne Shucksmith.
“Normally we have a target to raise £400,000 a year, but because of the work we need to raise more.
“But this walk is not something that’s been done in Mansfield, and if it’s successful we’ll see what happens next year.”
A similar event at a hospice in Lancashire last year proved a success and raised more than £54,000.
Open to men and women over 18, entry is £10 per person and those taking part can then raise their own sponsorship.
A company or business is now being urged to come forward to offer a £1,000 sponsorship to cover setting-up costs.
In return, their company logo will be used on the advertising banners.
