A superhuman effort will be needed by a group of friends who are hoping to raise cash for a good cause this weekend.
The four friends are gearing up to take on a gruelling test of endurance when they tackle the Total Warrior challenge.
Tony Meehan (41), Erica Meehan (34), Ady James (33)and Royston Barksby (37), who are from the Mansfield area, will be heading for the Lake District to take on a 10-mile, 30-obstacle course on Sunday.
They are raising money for the Community First Responders, local volunteers who assist in medical emergencies.
And to add interest to the gruelling challenge, they are planning to dress as a their favourite superheroes on the day, transforming into the Incredible Hulk, Superman, Spiderman and Batgirl.
Erica explained: “We’ve called the team the ‘Super Warriors’ and we’re all a bit geeky and have our favourite superheroes!
“Hopefully it won’t slow us down much, although if I’m dressed as Batgirl it might, wearing a mask and cape!
“It will certainly make it more challenging.”
Erica, her husband Tony and Royston are regulars at Body & Soul gym on Mansfield’s Leeming Street, while Ady is a personal trainer, which they hope will help them get over the line during the race.
They will encounter 10 miles of steep hills, water, mud, fire and even electric shocks.
“We are really looking forward to it, and getting quite excited,” added Erica.
“But it’s going to be difficult, we’ve not been doing a great deal of running!”
Erica said the four had several charities in mind, but opted for the Community First Responders after a friend, who volunteers for the cause, explained more about the work they do.
Responders react to emergency calls in their community and aim to reach casualties before an ambulance arrives to offer assistance and reassurance.
They carry life-saving equipment including a defibrillator that can help save a heart attack patient’s life.
They are all volunteers who undergo training and provide cover within their area.
