Mansfield sailor banned from road for drink-driving

A sailor who was driving himself to a takeaway in the early hours of New Year’s Day after being three times over the limit has been banned from the road for 23 months.

Leading seaman in the Royal Navy, Carl Lewis Malone (29) of Heanor Walk, Mansfield, admitted being behind the wheel of the Audi A3 at 2am on 1st January.

Prosecuting Robert Carr said a police officer had seen his car turning a corner at speed and hitting a kerb on Littleworth.

On being breathalysed, he was found to have 105 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcgs.

Malone was told to pay £965 in fines and costs.

It was heard that he would also be demoted in the Royal Navy and lose around £600 a month in wages.
