A CURRY restaurant is celebrating after picking up a top award at a prestigious ceremony in London.
The Mint restaurant on Mansfield’s Clerkson Street was voted the caterer of the year for the Midlands area by the Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA)- a group established in 1960 and has over 4,000 members.
Mint owner Foysal Choudhury was on hand to receive the award during the plush gathering at a Westminster Hotel.
He said: “It’s a prestigious award for Bangladeshi restaurants because there are over 4,000 members. Anyone can put a nomination in, and you have to send a profile showing why you think you should win.
“Of course I was surprised to win, it means we’re one of the 12 best restaurants in Britain because there are 12 regional winners.
“It feels like winning an Oscar! For me it’s fantastic because this is not an organisation that was set up a few years ago, it’s been going for over 50 years and this is the ultimate prize.
“It’s such a great achievement because there are so many others out there trying to win.
“I will make sure that we now go from strength to strength. There will now be higher expectations but this prize is for our customers and those who have supported us.”
Open for three years, the restaurant and is no stranger to success, having won a number of awards already including the Asian Curry Award at the BCA last year, and county champions in the Spice Times restaurant of the year awards 2011.
