A talented singer-songwriter from Mansfield is gearing up for the biggest gig of her life when she plays Nottingham’s Splendour Festival on Saturday.

Natalie Waite - who performs under the name Bud - will take to the acoustic stage at 6.30pm on a bill that includes the Happy Mondays and the Boomtown Rats.

Natalie (20), of King Edward Avenue, said: “I was so shocked! I have not put much out there yet so I am really grateful for the opportunity.

“I think it will give me a really promising start for my future in music. Clearly someone thinks I am good enough!”

Natalie started gigging in December last year at venues around Nottingham like The Maze, The Jam Cafe and the Rescue Rooms.

She said: I did my first festival a few weeks ago - it was really being thrown into the deep end! I am just going to make the of the best of it and put on the best performance I can.”

Natalie writes all of her own music and is supported by Thomas Bacon and Mitchell Ryan on bass and guitar.

When The Chad spoke to the singer she was suffering from a chest infection as well as pre-gig nerves.

“I am determined to fight it off,” she said. “I will use honey and lemon and a lot of prayers!”

Natalie promises a 30 minute acoustic set of reggae-influenced pop act.

She said: “I have been writing songs for a long time. I grew up listening to a lot of Bob Marley and have been a big fan of Jack Johnson and Jason Moraz.”

The ex-Brunts Academy pupil is also a big fan of Paolo Nutini and Amy Winehouse.

Natalie fought her way through to the grand final of the TeenStar Competition at London’s 02 Arena last year where she came second to Luke Friend who has since gone on to find fame and fortune on the X Factor.

She said the positive feedback from the judges in the semi-finals gave her the confidence to play her own original songs in the final.

Natalie hopes to become full time recording artist and has an offer to attend the University of Leeds this September to study music.

She also has her own YouTube channel which you can subscribe to at www.youtube.com/budofficial. You can also follow her on twitter @budofficial.
