Three people have been fined a total of £600 after being found guilty of dropping cigarette butts in the street in Gedling.

Nigel Phillips, of Bentinck Street, Mansfield, was spotted discarding a cigarette end in Woodborough Road last October, while John and Sarah Langton of Castleton Avenue, Arnold, were caught dropping ends in Front Street, Arnold in November.

They were all fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and £15 victim surcharge after failing to answer a summons to appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday 11th April.

Coun Michael Payne, portfolio holder for public protection said: “The Council takes littering very seriously, and we will not tolerate people carrying out anti-social acts.

“These are not victimless crimes; the council and ultimately the taxpayer have to pay to clean up the mess left behind.”
