Mansfield garden waste collection scheme could be extended to Newark & Sherwood

A GARDEN waste collection in Mansfield could be rolled out in neighbouring parts of Newark & Sherwood.

Mansfield District Council is looking at the viability of extending the scheme to Blidworth, Rainworth, Clipstone, Edwinstowe, Ollerton, Boughton, Bilsthorpe, Southwell and Farnsfield if there is enough interest.

The service costs £30 a year for a brown bin and an all year-round collection service - every two weeks from March to November and monthly during December to February.

Newark & Sherwood District Council has looked to implement a similar scheme but there was not enough interest to make it financially viable.

Coun Norma Armstrong, cabinet member for clean and green at Newark & Sherwood District Council, said: “We hope the interest expressed and the publicity campaign help to make this project viable.

“I am very supportive of these proposals and would like to see a green waste collection service established in this part of our district, helping to increase the district’s recycling rate.”

Leaflets will be delivered to residents and can be returned to the FREEPOST address on the form by 14th December. Alternatively, contact 464463.
