A demolition operator who says he only drank one can of lager before driving has been banned from the road for a year.
Wakumelo Mungandi, from Nottingham, was found to have 52 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath after being pulled by police on Midworth Street in Mansfield. The legal limit is 35 mcgs.
The 23-year-old had been on a night out in the town centre with friends but had consumed soft drinks all evening, apart from one can of lager.
Appearing before Mansfield magistrates, his solicitor Michael Little said his client was ‘shocked’ to have been over the limit but ‘thoroughly ashamed’ to have to appear in court. Mungandi had no previous convictions, cautions and a clean driving licence. He was told to pay £291 in fines and costs.
