Mansfield District Council is making changes to its Shopmobility scheme following a review of the service.

From Monday 8th April, the service will be available Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 3pm (currently the service operates Mondays to Saturdays 9am to 4pm).

A new pricing structure will also be introduced, which offers customers better value for money. The current charge of £3.50 for three-hour hire and £8.50 for the day will change to a single fixed daily rate (up to five hours) of £3.50.

There will also be a new option to pay £20 a month by direct debit for an advanced daily rate with unlimited use during operating hours (subject to availability and prior booking).

Shopmobility, based at the Walkden Street car park, enables members with mobility difficulties to hire a self-propelled or battery operated wheelchair or scooter to travel around the town centre.

A review of the usage of the service identified inefficiencies and changes were proposed in order to help protect its long-term viability.

Coun Kate Allsop, portfolio holder for economic regeneration, said: “The review of the Shopmobility scheme highlighted that there were clear trends of days when the service is in very little demand.

“Therefore we have consulted and listened carefully to our customers to enable us to tailor this service to match demand, whilst making it more efficient and cost effective.”
