Mansfield Sand Company have supplied compost and gravel to help the school improve their grounds and get children interested in growing plants.

The school PTFA group purchased wooden planters, but their original supplier let them down, delaying the project until Mansfield Sand stepped in.

“Our active Eco Club have been keen to grow things that they can eat for some time,” said Berry Hill headteacher Susan Brown. “The children have been looking after their plants now for a few weeks and are looking forward to eating the strawberries.”

Jon Boulton, managing director of Mansfield Sand had his heart strings tugged by a photograph of very glum children standing alongside empty planters.

He added: “I was delighted to offer the school compost and gravel to help them with planting and growing this year.

“We have kept in touch with the school and have been pleased to see the tomato and strawberry plants that they are growing.”
