FEWER GPs than expected took part in industrial action on Thursday, health chiefs have confirmed.

Members of doctors’ union the British Medical Association (BMA) had agreed to take action in a dispute over pensions.

All surgeries remained open and some were completely unaffected including Willowbrook at Sutton. Others cancelled or modified routine bookings and only saw emergency cases.

There were three surgeries in Ashfield and three in Mansfield which were affected in some way by the action.

These were Ashfield House Practice and Kirkby’s Health Centre along with Healdswood Surgery in Skegby.

In Mansfield, Orchard Medical Practice and Acorn Medical Practice were affected as well as Meden Medical Services in Meden Vale.

On Monday, a spokesman from NHS Nottinghamshire County said: “As anticipated, the industrial action caused minimal disruption across primary care services in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County.

“Fewer practices than expected took part in the action - 17 out of 64 in Nottingham city, and 24 out of 97 in Nottinghamshire county.”
