A Sutton man was jailed for 28 days after he injured a former girlfriend.

John Kavanagh, 29 of Davies Avenue, Sutton appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to using violence to secure entry to premises.

Kavanagh had been separated from his former partner for three months. He put his foot in the doorway of her flat when he called on July 9, ripping the chain from the door hitting her wrist and causing her pain.

She had run away from the flat to get away and was left traumatised by the experience. Kavanagh, who was said to be struggling with alcoholism was also given a restraining order.
