Police praised the ‘majority’ fans for their behaviour before, during and after the fiery derby match between Stags and arch-rivals Chesterfield last night, Tuesday 8th October.
Mansfield lost the cup match last night, 1-0, at the One Call Stadium, and despite the potential for trouble between the two sets of supporters, police say it largely passed off without incident.
Pc Carl Gabbitas of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It was a local derby and it was well attended but there were no arrests and we would like to say ‘thank you’ to the vast majority of fans who behaved themselves.”
Police admitted there had been some potential for flash points, however, it bore little resemblance to the recent league match between the two sides at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium, a game which Mansfield won 1-0.
That led to seven arrests, and a pledge from Derbyshire Police to track down other hooligans hellbent on causing trouble.
