AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by British Transport Police (BTP) officers following the derailment of a freight train at Edwinstowe.
The incident happened at Thoresby Colliery Junction on Friday, 9th November, and two youths have since been arrested.
The youths, aged 15 and 17 from Edwinstowe, were arrested by BTP officers yesterday, Wednesday, 14th November, on suspicion of endangering safety and criminal damage.
They were both questioned and have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries until 4th January 2013.
BTP received reports of a freight train derailing at Thoresby Colliery at 5.20am.
The train remained upright and no-one was injured. Officers attended the scene and, following a search of the area, they discovered a substantial amount of ballast had been placed between the running rail tracks. Officers launched an investigation which led to yesterday’s arrest.
