DOG breeders are being warned over thefts after a pensioner had two puppies worth £1,300 taken in a distraction theft.

Doreen Dawson (82) of Coggins Lane, Warsop, had two eight-week-old black Pekingese dogs taken by two women who saw them advertised for sale.

Whilst one of the women claimed that she could not walk, she asked the dogs to be brought out to her in the car.

After agreeing to pay £1,300 for the two pedigree pups, they asked to see the dogs’ documents.

When the pensioner’s back was turned, they drove off with the two puppies without paying.

Devastated Doreen said: “They asked all the relevant questions, and sound so convincing. It really knocked me off my feet, it’s made me ill, I’m only just getting over it now. I stopped going out for a while.

“I’ve only got my pension so if I need to buy anything I breed the dogs.

“I just want people to know that this is happening.”

Doreen said a dog-breeding friend of hers in Tibshelf had also been approached already by the two women, who are driving a mark-one silver Ford Focus.

On that occasion, they came away without the dogs.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
