Warning to Mansfield people over bogus callers

Residents are being urged to say no to callers claiming to work on behalf of Mansfield District Council offering home insulation.

A private homeowner contacted the authority on Thursday 4th October asking whether the Council was cold calling people to offer free loft and cavity wall insulation.

The council is not offering this service and therefore is not contacting residents.

Mansfield District Council will usually contact householders by telephone or letter, and will not make unsolicited calls offering services such as home insulation.

Mansfield District Council employees carry identity badges with them at all times.

Anyone who contacts people about insulation saying they are working for the Council should be treated as suspicious and refused entry to the property.

There are many legitimate companies offering free cavity wall and loft insulation (depending on the property and resident’s individual circumstances). If you are interested in obtaining insulation, you should contact your own energy supplier. All legitimate companies will offer a free survey, a written quote and a 25-year guarantee.

Coun Mick Barton, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, said: “Residents should always ask for identification from unannounced visitors before letting them into their home and should never give payment or bank account details to anyone they do not know. All our staff carry identification and if you have any doubts you can contact the District Council on 01623 463463.”
