Warning over thefts from cars after Shirebrook break-in

Derbyshire Police are reminding residents to keep their valuables out of sight following a number of thefts from cars in the area - including at Shirebrook and Pinxton.

There have been more than 30 thefts from vehicles throughout the area since the start of October, which includes the districts of North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, Chesterfield and Amber Valley.

The most recent have taken place in:

Chesterfield: A Toyota Hilux parked on Burnbridge Road, Old Whittington was broken into sometime overnight between Sunday, October 7th and Monday, October 8th. Tools were stolen.

Pinxton: Overnight between Sunday, October 7th and Monday, October 8th a Ford Fiesta parked on Wharf Road was broken into. Cash and a sat nav were stolen.

Dronfield: Tools were stolen from a Citroen Relay van parked on Ashford Close, Dronfield Woodhouse sometime overnight between Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th.

Ripley: A musical instrument and bags were stolen from a Citroen Dispatch parked on Laurel Avenue sometime overnight between Thursday, October 4th and Friday, October 5th.

Shirebrook: Overnight between Wednesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October 4th an iPad was stolen from a Vauxhall Corsa parked on Chesnut Drive.

Community Safety Inspector Russ Dakin said: “It is really important that motorists check that they’ve locked their cars and removed any valuable items such as sat-navs, mobile phones and laptops on display. This can really help reduce the risk of their vehicle being broken into.

“We would also ask that anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or with information about these incidents or any crime in the area, to contact us.”

Other advice for car owners includes parking in a busy, well-lit area, or in a secure garage and fitting and using car alarms or other security devices such as one way number plate screws.

Anyone with any information about these incidents or crime in the area should contact Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
