A PUBLIC consultation will be launched before plans to build a series of electricity pylons for testing purposes near a village are submitted.
National Grid is wanting locals’ views on its new T-pylon, which they hope to erect six of near to their Eakring Training Centre, along with connecting wires, to form a test line.
They will be applying to Newark and Sherwood for planning permission for the structures in the coming months which they want to build on land to the north and east of the centre.
They stand at 35 metres high- 10 metres shorter than traditional pylons- and would be 200 metres apart. The pylons may have different finishes in order to determine which blends into the landscape best.
The T-pylons will not be part of the live transmission network, but used to train National Grid’s engineers in how best to construct, maintain and work with the new structures.
As part of the proposed plans, a new access road will be built from the training centre to the line, new one-storey storage building and a proposed re-routing the Robin Hood Way- which will be considered separately by Nottinghamshire County Council.
The plans will be on display tomorrow, Friday 26th October from 3pm to 8pm, and again on Saturday 27th October from 10am to 1pm at Cator Hall in Eakring.
The T-pylon is the winner of an international competition held by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and The Royal Institute of British Architects, who considered it to be attractive, innovative and a simple design that was likely to blend into different landscapes.
Bryan Ashford, National Grid’s learning and development manager, responsible for the Training Centre in Eakring, said: “We will soon be submitting our planning application but before we do so we want to hear what the people who live and work near our site have to say. We look forward to welcoming them to our two events.”
