VIDEO: Thousands flock to see Mansfield’s Christmas lights switched on

Waiting for Video...

IT’S official! Mansfield has joined the countdown to Christmas as the town’s festive lights were switched on in style this evening.

An estimated 7,000-plus people packed into the Market Place to see the Christmas cracker, which this year took place on a Sunday for the first time and was dubbed ‘The Big Switch On’.

Stars from Mansfield Palace Theatre panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were joined on stage by Paralympian swimmers Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw to switch on the lights before the festive extravaganza ended with a stunning firework display.

The huge crowds were also entertained with music from The Hotshots and Mansfield’s Rock Choir during a live show hosted by radio station, Mansfield 103.2.

There was also a special presentation to local businessman Bill Taylor, founder of the Mansfield Christmas Lights Committee, for his work to light up the town throughout the past decade.

See Wednesday’s Chad for a full picture round up of Sunday’s switch on event.
