Video slideshow: Ashfield students celebrate their A levels

Ashfield School reported a record year, with a 99.6 per cent pass rate at A level, with 40 per cent of those grades being A* - B.

Carley Willis, with her A, B, and B results will be studying in Manchester, Blaire Williams is off to City University London with 2 B’s and a C to study civil engineering and Will Dallison is off to the University of Manchester to study I.T. and business management after achieving 2 A’s and one B.

Beth Moore celebrates her three A stars which see her off to the University of Bath to study accountancy and finance.

Jess Edwards, with a B, B, C, is off to the University of Birmingham to study nursing, Jessica Parnell, A, B, B, will be studying chemistry at the University of Nottingham, Shelby Hague with her B, C, C, will be reading criminology and psycology at the University of East London, Jess Salmon who will by studying graphic design at Derby with her distinction, distinction star and C grades, Bethany Ellis is taking up a teaching apprenticeship following her A, C, and C grades, and Alice Kenworth is off to the University of Nottingham to study physiotherapy with her A, B, and C grades.

At Sutton Community Academy the A* - C pass rate was 61.2 per cent, another improvement on last year.

A number of students did exceptionally well right across the board.

Dominik Piotrowski gained three Distinction Stars in his subjects and Charlotte Wint gained two A’s and a B

Karen Jones, Head of Sixth Form, said: “The students and staff have worked exceptionally hard over the past year and their efforts have really been rewarded. The students now move on to their next exciting stage and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”

She said 100 per cent of the students that wanted to go to university have been offered places on their chosen courses which ranged from Fine Arts to Biomedical Sciences. Many students exceeded their required targets for University places.

Head of year 13 Neil Groves added: “I am very proud of all the students after all their hard work.

“They deserve all the fantastic results they achieved. A bright future awaits them all.”

Some students had achieved several good A level grades in just one year.

Lezley Dawes 17 got an A in Maths a Bin chemistry Cs in geography and her EPQ and a D in biology. She said: “ I did better than i expected - our year has a new syllabus for some subjects.

“It was very stressful and completely different to GCSEs

She is hoping to go to university next year to study chemistry and maths.”

Waqas Pavis 17, achieved an A in maths a B in Physics, a C in biology and is staying on for a further year.

Daisy Rawson 18, got Bs in English Literature and Geography and a C in Art. She has been offered a place to study fashion design.

She said; “When I got my results I screamed out loudly - it was very exciting.”

She said her A levels had been very heard work and had completed them while juggling with a job.

Paul Westhead, 18 was awarded B in Art C in Geography and D in English. He is going to Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge to study photography.
