VIDEO: Mansfield park run is a hit with joggers

A WEEKLY park run in Mansfield Woodhouse is going from strength to strength as people look to get fit and make new friends in the process.

Dozens of people have been getting involved with the Mansfield parkrun since it launched in September.

Every Saturday, a team of dedicated volunteers put on a timed 5k run at the Manor Sports Complex.

The route is clearly marked out in the park and is ideal for experienced runners and novices.

A hardcore following have been taking part each week but the volunteers are keen for more people to join in.

Volunteer co-ordinator Nicola Grounds thinks it is the perfect time to get involved.

She said: “Mansfield parkrun has continued to grow since we opened late September.

“But now is the perfect time of year to encourage new runners who have previously been anxious and didn’t know where to start as well as provide regular runners an opportunity to monitor their progress and meet other runners to train with.”

Fellow volunteer Maddy Collinge added: “It is a good news story for running in Mansfield!

“The parkrun is growing quickly but we are always trying to get more information out thereto the public.

“It would be great if more people could join us on a Saturday morning to find out for themselves.”

parkrun have organised more than 15,000 events at over 150 locations across the UK

An average of about 130 runners take part in each parkrun event.

In Mansfield there have been 22 events with a total of 332 runners taking part.

Our official sponsorship deals make it possible for parkrun events to be free. Without our sponsors, parkrun could not survive.

A spokesman from parkrun said: “ Our sponsors’ representatives can often be found running a parkrun. The way that adidas, Sweatshop and Lucozade Sport interact with the parkrunner is testament to their passion for and knowledge of what it is we do.

“We like to celebrate our runners, but we also want to celebrate our sponsors! We would urge you to support them,”
