A Sutton teenager with a giant ginger afro raised £1,011 after shearing off his hair for a good cause.

Daniel Bastow (16), grew his hair to epic proportions after friends dared him, but will now donate both cash and the hair to The Little Princess Trust.

The shave took place on Thursday August 21st at 3pm at the Picture House in Sutton.

His mum Tracey says that once seen, Daniel’s hairstyle is never forgotten.

Daniel, who attends Sutton Community Academy said: “I am doing it because I have grown my hair and I want it cut and to donate it to a good cause.

“I just wanted to do something good. I searched on Google for places where I could donate my hair. I read about The Little Princess Trust and decided they were a good cause.

“I have had my hair like this for six years after a few of my friends dared me to grow it like this for secondary school.

“I have not had any bad comments about my hair. People have come up to me and wanted to have their picture taken with me. No one has made any jokes about it.”

Daniel looked a little unsure when hairdresser Jennifer Harwood, from Envi Hair and Beauty, started the process of plaiting the hair so that it can be re-used to make wigs for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Afterwards, a shorn Daniel said it felt ‘different’ to be without the afro.

The Little Princess Trust provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
