Families flocked to Sherwood Forest as the annual Robin Hood Festival kicked off.

Yet again families get to celebrate the legend of Robin Hood and enjoy a week of medieval fun with jousting tournaments, story telling and comedy acts as the legend of Nottingham is brought back to life with live action skirmishes under the mighty Major Oak.

Fans of Robin Hood will get a chance to meet the characters throughout the festival week, and the lucky ones might even get to meet Robin himself.

The 32nd Robin Hood Festival, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council, is taking place every day until Sunday August 7, with activities running from 11am to 4pm.

There will be plenty of musical fun, jesters, medieval magic, street performers, japes and jokes with fools, as well as various activities you can take part in.

Children can win a Robin Hood-themed goodie bag courtesy of Stagecoach East Midlands at the festival, by taking part in a ‘Wheel of Fortune’ style game.

The goodie bags feature a Robin Hood colouring book, colouring pencils and stickers.

Councillor John Knight, committee chairman for culture at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “There is always great variety with what is on offer at the Robin Hood Festival.

“It promises to be another fantastic and memorable festival celebrating Nottinghamshire’s famous outlaw.”

The event is free of charge. However, the parking costs £5 and there are day and evening events that require purchasing a ticket in advance.
