UPDATE: Mansfield Town CEO Carolyn Still arrested and cautioned at Stags play-off semi after player ejected
MANSFIELD Town chief executive Carolyn Still was arrested for using threating words and behaviour following an altercation with police during the club’s Conference play-off semi-final first leg at York City on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “A 29-year-old woman from Retford was arrested at 9pm on Wednesday 2nd May on Grosvenor Terrace, in York, for using threatening words and behaviour. She was given an adult caution before being released.”
Mansfield Town owner John Radford, who is engaged to Miss Still, has issued a statement which said: “As you may know our dedicated and hard working CEO was involved in a incident in York toward the end of last nights game when she went to the aid of one of our first team players who was being ushered out of the stadium by a number of police officers.
“Disappointed by how our player was being treated she was reprimanded for a verbal retort to a police officer. This incident has been blown totally out of proportion over a light hearted, hot headed quip in defence of our player. I commend the police for their common sense in dealing with the matter quickly and no charges have been made against our CEO. COYS.”
A police spokesman confimed that a non-playing Mansfield first team player was escorted from the ground by officers prior to Miss Still’s arrest.
Sophie Hicks, York City’s communications and community director, said: “Carolyn Still did seem to become quite distressed in the second half of the game.
“I can confirm she did leave the match early and I understand there was an incident involving the police outside the ground.”
