Unpaid work order for Shirebrook man
A Shirebrook man who skipped a court punishment because it clashed with his job has been spared jail.
Anthony Boyle, of Thoresby Avenue, was handed 100 hours of unpaid work last November for an offence of theft.
He breached the order in January and was given an extra 10 hours but he then missed more sessions with the probation service and failed to complete the term.
Boyle (22) was arrested on Monday morning and brought to Chesterfield magistrates court in custody. He admitted breaching a community order.
“At the time of the breach he was working in a warehouse for a sports company on varying shifts. It caused him difficulties notifying the probation service when he was working
“He is currently unemployed but he has two potential offers of employment. He in anxious not to into custody and a curfew wouldn’t be a problem,” said defence solicitor John Wilford.
Boyle was re-sentenced to do 50 hours’ unpaid work - more than the number of hours outstanding on the previous order - and the bench warned him that a further breach would lead directly to prison.
The court heard that he had recently gained a welding qualification and might be able to start a job as a welder next week. It was also possibile he might return to the sports firm.
“While unemployed he is expected to work four days a week. If he goes back into employment it will be one day a week,” said probation officer Jerry Starnes.
