What do you love about Mansfield? Maybe it’s one of the many great restaurants or the evening markets organised in town. Perhaps the theatre or live entertainment in one of the pubs is what you think makes it great.
Mansfield’s Purple Flag steering group is asking the question – and anyone who lives, works or comes for a night out in the town is being encouraged to give an answer.
The group plans to pass on what people have said when inspectors from the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) which decides on the award make a second visit in the next few weeks.
Purple Flag is an accreditation scheme that recognises excellence in the management of town centres at night. It can be seen as the equivalent of the Blue Flag awarded to good beaches.
Inspectors came to Mansfield in April and gave very positive feedback on the application. ATCM said it would like assessors to make a second visit to witness an element of the criteria not in place on the evening of the first visit.
In its application the steering group identified five key things it thought are great about Mansfield. These included it has something for all ages, budgets and tastes; it is a safe, friendly and fun town; it is easy to get to and from, it has history and tradition; and it has a great range of shops and restaurants.
During the next inspection visit the group would like to tell ATCM what YOU think.

Speaking on behalf of the Steering Group, Sarah Nelson, Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, said: “We have carried out surveys in the town centre among residents and those out for the night, but we have never actually asked ‘what do you love about Mansfield?’
