An opticians in Sutton has welcomed its newest member of the team – a robot – which will improve quality of work and service for customers.

Specsavers has invested £70,000 in the latest robot machinery – an ICE-1000 Intelligent Blocker and SE-9090 Supra Edger with RHU-1000 Robotic Handling Unit.

Known as the ‘robot’, the equipment, which is used to cut new lenses, was purchased to replace the machinery that has gone through normal wear and tear.

Nigel Davidson, store director, said: “Our current machines have been working overtime to carry out their function, resulting in breakdowns in operation. We decided to purchase the best equipment possible as we always have the customer in mind.

“The robot can carry out the highest calibre of work in less time, resulting in an improved standard of work and same-day collection service for customers.”

Deep Singh SMC (Tech), Senior Sales Manager from Birmingham Optical, the UK distributor of the machines said: “We are delighted to be supplying this technology to one of the flagship stores in the Specsavers group. This builds on previous investment by the store in optical equipment.

“Nationwide performance of these lab instruments has been outstanding and I am sure that the Sutton-in-Ashfield store will notice tangible improvements in the service they offer their customers such as increased speed, accuracy and efficiency.”
