David Fisher, 31, of Nesbitt Street, admitted stealing a packet of winegums and a packet of Skittles, worth £3, from WH Smith in Sutton on March 18.

But he denied the theft of two bottles of perfume, worth £48, from Lloyds Pharmacy on March 8.

Simon King, defending, said Fisher stole the sweets because he was hungry.

Magistrates denied Fisher bail because of his ‘substantial’ criminal record and he was remanded in custody until his trial on May 10.
