Sun shines as Annesley Old Church opens to the public
Treasurer of the Friends of Annesley Old Church Sue Hardy throws open the doors to viositors at a special open event on Saturday
THE sun shone on the picturesque Old Annesley Chuurch on Saturday as members of the public met with history experts and representatives from Ashfield District Council for its grand reopening.
The Old Church has been transformed over the past year thanks to a joint project run by Ashfield District Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and the newly-formed Friends of Annesley Old Church group.
During the day there were guided tours, a chance to climb the renovated tower, DVD screenings and exhibitions, while this evening, there will be a ghostly walk around the grounds.
Speaking at the event, deputy council leader John Wilmott thanked the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
He added: “It gives people a great opportunity to see the heritage of this area.”
