South Normanton takeaway man fined for planning breaches

A MAN who broke the rules while running a takeaway food shop in South Normanton has been fined by magistrates.

Tabarak Mehmood was granted permission by Bolsover District Council last year to extend the opening hours of Royal Takeaway in Market Place.

His licence included a condition that CCTV was operating in the restaurant and a copy of his licence was on display on the premises.

Magistrates at Chesterfield were told on Monday that police attended an incident outside the shop on 10th February and were told by staff that CCTV wasn’t working at the time.

“On March 8 a further visit was carried out by two officers who found the CCTV wasn’t working. They were told by members of staff that it hadn’t been working for seven months,” said Sarah Haslam, prosecuting.

“The owner said he hadn’t read the new conditions of the licence. He had the CCTV system repaired on April 18 and, since then, the licence had been on display in the shop.”

Mehmood (35), of Breedon Avenue, Littleover, Derby, admitted licence breaches on 8th March and was fined £415, with £85 costs. He had no previous convictions.

He told the court, via an interpreter, that he could not read and understand the licence properly and he should have asked for help.

He said he sold the shop three weeks ago for £10,000 and he had received a payment of £2,000 with the remainder to be paid in instalments within a year.

Mehmood added that he was due to start work as a taxi driver next week.
