South Normanton man’s jail warning
A SOUTH Normanton man who attacked his mother and step-father at a wedding reception could be locked up.
Roy and Wendy Fletcher were waiting for a lift home from the party when Kurt O’Brien approached them wearing no shoes.
Mr Fletcher asked where the shoes were and O’Brien replied that it was none of his business, magistrates at Chesterfield were told last Wednesday.
“The defendant was talking to them and he flew into a rage, punching her to the face and then throwing her to the floor.
“He sat astride her and held her around the throat,” said Nina Packman, prosecuting.
She added: “Mr Fletcher took him in a bear-hug and pulled him off and he was punched repeatedly to the face and head by the defendant, who then ran away. It was completely unprovoked.”
O’Brien (25), of Rogers Lane, South Normanton, admitted assaulting the couple at Alfreton on 11th August.
Presiding magistrate Paul Beard adjourned sentence for probation service reports and warned O’Brien that he could be jailed at the next hearing on Thursday.
He granted bail on condition that O’Brien did not contact Mr and Mrs Fletcher or go to their address in Alfreton.
“It’s a strange and bizarre incident. He doesn’t have a problem with his parents and there was no reason for him to assault them,” said Denney Lau, for O’Brien.
“He only drank two pints but it was mixed with his mental health medication and this had an effect on him.”
