SNOWWATCH: Warning for motorists in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council’s gritting crews have been in action across the county, putting down a layer of salt on all major routes in preparation for afternoon’s snowfall. (WED)
The snow is expected to hit its peak later in the afternoon and could be as much as two inches on high ground.
The County Council’s 23 gritting vehicles were out on the roads since 11am using a mix of 20gsm (normally the mix is 15gsm).
The County Council has 23 gritting vehicles across the county, each covering a route of A and B roads and main bus routes that takes them around three or four hours to complete.
In addition, 11 other vehicles have been fitted with snow ploughs in readiness for heavy snow.
Derbyshire County Council is currently treating all primary gritting routes.
But with snow expected to turn to rain, there’s a risk that the rain will freeze on impact with the road.
This seals the grit under the ice reducing the effect making driving conditions hazardous.
Gritting teams across the county will continue to monitor conditions and take any action necessary.
