School leavers with disabilities invited to event at Portland College

YOUNG people with disabilities can find out about what options they have when they leave school at an event being held later this month.

The You Can Do Anything event will take place at Portland College, which is on the edge of Mansfield and Ashfield, on 23rd March between 10am and 3pm.

It is open to anyone who will be leaving school in the next couple of years as well as their parents, carers and friends.

There are workshops and taster sessions taking place including the opportunity to find out about the transition process, learn about personal budgets, short breaks and respite, together with trying out disability sports, taking part in art sessions and discovering some of the technology which can make life easier for disabled people.

Janet Tomblin, from Portland College, says: “We understand how important the transition from school into further education is and the need for students and families to be well informed.

“The event brings together many providers that could potentially be the right option for someone looking at their future in education or independent living.”

To find out more about the event or to register call Mansfield 499186 or visit www.portland.ac.uk.
