A resident of a Sutton care home has reached an extraordinary milestone by turning an amazing 103-years-old.
Sarah Robinson celebrated her birthday on Wednesday 11th September and was presented with a bunch of flowers and a birthday cake by staff at Forest Manor Care Home, on Mansfield Road, where she now lives.
Sarah’s brother Richard Allaway (87) also visited to wish her many happy returns.
He said that he has many fond memories of his sister from when she was in her prime.
A former Stapleford resident, she worked as a crane driver at Stanton Iron Works and was also a keen footballer.
“They used to tell me she could run and nobody could catch her,” said Richard.
“When I was growing up she always used to come to me and ask if she looked nice before she went out.”
Sarah was married to her late husband Arthur, who was in the Merchant Navy, for many years.
Having lived independently until she was around 90, Sarah moved into a care home in Ruddington and lived there for about ten years before coming to Sutton.
During her working life Sarah also had a care in the community role.
“She liked the people that much she used to buy them things out of her own money and do their washing,” added Richard.
He said that nobody else in the family has lived to such an age, but put it down to Sarah eating well and enjoying keeping active.
