Rubbish idea proves a fundraising winner

WHAT a load of rubbish!

Fundraisers turned a trashy idea into a money maker at the weekend pulling in the cash for causes, including the Mansfield-based charity, Hetty’s.

Three teams from waste management company, SRCL, organised the Big Bin Push starting at Hetty’s on Mansfield’s Woodhouse Road headquarters in Mansfield before setting off on a 24-mile trek to Nottingham.

Along the way they also stopped at the Badger Box pub in Annesley.

The day proved a success raising £3,500 to be split between Hetty’s and the Queen’s Medical Centre.

A spokesperson for Hetty’s said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response and support from SRCL.

“It was a great atmosphere for the bin push and really heart-warming to see so many people involved with the fundraising. Hetty’s are really grateful for the support and want to say a big thank you to SRCL.

“We rely heavily on fundraising to carry on offering the vital services we do.”

Hetty’s started as a voluntary organisation in 1996 with a small group of mums who affected by a loved one’s drug misuse. Today they offer advice and support to people who have been affected by their relatives issues with drugs and alcohol.

And there are hopes that more cash could be coming their way as the total tallies up.

SRCL’s marketing campaigns manager Jonathan Cliff said: “We’re in the process of collating other donations from the SRCL network, colleagues and their friends and family, so the current amount raised is likely to change.”
