A MESSAGE from The Queen to The Boys’ Brigade has passed through Mansfield on an epic journey across the UK.
Each year The Queen, as Patron of the Brigade, receives a a message of loyal greeting then sends a reply to the Brigade’s Annual National Council.
This year, as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Her Majesty handed over her reply personally. The message, in a silver baton, is now making its way from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to London in time for the Council on Saturday.
It passed through Mansfield and was received at Robin Hood Railway Station.
Brigade Secretary, Steve Dickinson, said: “We’re trying to involve as many young people as possible and it is planned that the baton will be conveyed by land, sea and air.
“It will travel by steam train, tractor, scooter, canal boat, ferry, and vintage coach. The baton will be met at each of the transfer points and we are delighted that this will involve civic dignitaries.”
