Over 800 retired soldiers and their families are set to attend the annual reunion of The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association, this Saturday.

The event at Worcester Rugby Club is always celebrated on the first Saturday of June to commemorate the 1794 naval battle known as the ‘Glorious First of June.’

The 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot served as marines aboard HMS Brunswick and HMS Ramillies during the battle, sinking French ship Vengeur du Peuple, despite suffering the heaviest casualty toll of any Royal Navy ship present.

The Regiment was awarded a Naval Crown for its courageous involvement within the battle.

Over 800 retired soldiers and their families from The Worcestershire Regiment, The Sherwood Foresters and The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment are expected to attend.

Past and current members of Mercian Regiment and their families will also attend from 12pm to 6pm. Cadets from The Mercian Regiment will also be on duty during the day.

There will be a March Past by Old Comrades and a drumhead service - a church service which is conducted from a battlefield during armed conflict - at 2pm.

Anyone who has served in either The Worcestershire Regiment, The Sherwood Foresters, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, is presently serving in The Mercian Regiment or is a member of the Association together with their families may attend the Reunion.
