A RESIDENT has criticised a public consultation into the future use of Portland Park in Kirkby saying that more information was needed.
If given the go-ahead, the trust would be given a ‘licence to occupy’ and would be based on the upper mezzanine.
The consultation finished on Friday - but Andrew Chipperfield-Taylor, from Kirkby, says the council should be more open about its plans.
He said: “I don’t think this is a consultation at all. There isn’t enough information available.
“Why haven’t the council put out all the relevant information regarding the licence?”
He also said that other groups such as the Friends of Portland Park or Kirkby Conservation Society, should be given the chance to hold a licence - which he says could boost the visitor centre’s revenue.
“I would expect the council to maximise revenue for the centre,” he added.
A council spokesman said: “The council was approached by Notts Wildlife Trust to operate from Portland Park.
“The purpose of the consultation is to seek representation on the proposed joint occupation not to seek interest from alternative users.
“We have consulted with community groups, including the Friends of Portland Park, as well as placing a notice in the press and on the council’s website. We are content that the level and method of consultation is appropriate for the proposal.”
