A SKEGBY man has been given a suspended jail sentence after punching a neighbour who had a child in his arms at the time.

Shaun Binch, of Sylvan Crescent, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault, including one on his partner, following an incident on 19th August.

Mansfield Magistrates Court heard how Binch argued with his partner in the street and put his arms around her neck.

A neighbour holding a three-year-old child intervened but was punched by Binch.

District judge Diane Baker said: “It was a nasty punch to someone trying to help with a child in his arms.”

Binch was given 16 weeks custody suspended for two years, ordered to complete a domestic violence programme and pay compensation to both victims.
