Public consultation on plans to move Kirkby Post Office
RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on plans to relocate the Post Office in Kirkby.
Bosses at the Post Office are proposing to move the branch which is in the Ellis Street carpark to a new location at 1-3 Lowmoor Road, which is 183m away.
It is part of a modernisation programme which is taking place at branches throughout the UK.
Adrian Wales, who is Post Office Regional Network Manager for Central England, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Kirkby and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme.
“The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The new Kirkby branch would have a mixture of a screened and open plan serving points. It would be open from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
Meanwhile, the news has been welcomed by Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero.
She said: “The proposed move is now open to public consultation and if you do have any concerns then let them know and make sure your voice is heard - but my initial thought is one of relief.
“It’s great news for the town and hopefully we are on the verge of having a service we can be proud of.”
The consultation ends on 22nd April. To have your say call 08457 22 33 44 or textphone 08457 22 33 55. Alternatively, freepost YOUR COMMENTS to Post Office Ltd or email email@example.com.
