Pub raises the bar for scanner appeal

A WINNING combination of tombolas, raffles and a popular pub quiz has seen staff at Sutton’s King and Miller pub raise the bar for the Chad’s MRI Scanner Appeal.

A hearty cheque for £770 was presented to King’s Mill Hospital by King and Miller fundraisers Susan Steele and deputy manager Gareth Evans.

The cash – raised over the last six months – is largely the proceeds of the pub’s cleverly named Thursday night quiz, MRIQ, in which teams each donate £1 to pit their knowledge for a worthy cause.

“I’d like to thank customers and staff for their continued support of our raffles, tombolas and quiz,” said King and Miller manager Dave Hunter. “Special thanks must go to Susan as at least half the money raised is down to her hard work. She spends hours scouring the local car boot sales for great prizes, ensuring people dig deep and buy tickets.”

Fundraising at the King’s Mill Road East pub for Chad’s MRI appeal is ongoing. The MRIQ quiz takes place on Thursdays at 9pm.

Pictured are Pam Hopkinson, Perry Roberts and Susan Steel presenting Sarah Sentance, Deputy Radiography Services manager at King’s Mill Hospital, second right, with the £770 donation.
