A MANSFIELD man has been ordered to pay £1,200 compensation to a pub customer he kicked outside a bar, breaking his shoulder.

Cem Ertem (36) who appeared before Nottingham Crown Court with a Turkish interpreter, admitted assaulting Simon Taylor causing him actual bodily harm.

Ertem, of Montague Street, Mansfield, was also given a four months prison sentence suspended for a year and banned for three months from going into licensed premises in Mansfield on Friday and Saturday nights.

The court was shown CCTV footage of the street violence on 11th May last year.

Two groups of men had been asked to leave Martha’s Vineyard after words had been exchanged between them, said Paul Stimson, prosecuting.

The court heard Ertem had no previous convictions. He had come to the UK to marry a woman who had met him on holiday in Turkey.

He had worked constantly, including for the Royal Mail and Parcelforce. The marriage broke down and he came to Mansfield, where he bought a property, said his advocate Digby Johnson.

Judge Jonathan Teare said he accepted Ertem had not started the violence.

He said: “Another man grabbed a friend of yours and you went to break that up. But when you pulled the man off and he went to the ground you kicked him twice and punched him once.”

The judge said kicks crossed the custody threshold but sending him straight to prison would mean him losing his job and probably his house.
