A Polish man who admitted stealing vodka from a supermarket to ease his financial worries was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
Pawel Grzegorz Pycek (31) of Stockwell Gate, Mansfield, was caught taking four bottles of expensive vodka, worth £148, from Tesco on Chesterfield Road South.
He had used a foil-lined bag to avoid the in-store detectors.
Defending, Mary Dixon, said her client had been in England since 2012 but had found himself short of money because he could not find work and at the time was not eligible for benefits.
He had planned to drink some of the vodka, but sell the rest.
Now collecting job seekers’ allowance (JSA) he was told to pay £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
