Police will end Huthwaite yobs' reign of terror

An anti-social behaviour crimewave in Huthwaite has become so bad that scared residents are thinking of leaving the area, a councillor claims.

Councillor Lee Anderson has condemned a spate of recent arson attacks and says group of youths have terrorised the village throwing stones at a pensioner and damaging property.

Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said plans are in place to tackle the yobs.

Coun Anderson said: “Over the past few months we have suffered unparalleled levels of crime in Huthwaite.

“So much so that last month Paddy Tipping and Inspector Longden accompanied myself and residents and a walk around the village.

“At the end of the meeting I was promised that Huthwaite would be made a high priority.”

He said on same night and subsequent nights there were arson attacks mostly on bins throughout the village.

Coun Anderson added: “A group of youths can be seen most nights roaming the village causing untold damage to property as well as attacking and throwing stones at people in the village.

“These same youths were seen in the vicinity and the same youths were seen throwing stones at a lady in her 70s.

“The problem has become so bad that some residents have contacted me to tell me that they are moving out of the village because they feel unsafe.”

“Residents want to know when this crime wave will stop and when the culprits are going to be arrested and charged.”

Newly re-elected Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: “I was pleased to be able to join local people and the police on a walk around the area to see first-hand what the problems are.

“I have since discussed the issues with the police and I know that plans are in place to address things.”
