NOTTINGHAMSHIRE’S new police and crime commissioner has presented his five-year plan on tackling crime to the Police and Crime Panel.

Paddy Tipping put forward the draft Police and Crime plan for 2013-2018 at last Tuesday’s panel meeting, setting out what he wants to achieve according to the budget available to Nottinghamshire Police.

The pledges that Mr Tipping made prior to his election are reflected in the report, including improving community policing across the county by taking on 150 extra police officers and 100 more PCSOs, prioritising domestic violence and reducing anti-social behaviour by 50 per cent.

The final plan will be published by 31st March and members of the public are being urged to have their say on the draft.

Mr Tipping said: “My aim is to reduce crime and the number of victims in our county - and an important role of our communities is to tell me what they think.

“I want to give victims and citizens a bigger voice in policing to achieve a safer Nottinghamshire - this is one of the key workstreams for my deputy Chris Cutland, who has worked with me closely during the development of the plan.”

Views are being sought on the draft plan from partners and community groups, while residents can have their say by reading the report and commenting via the commissioner’s website at www.nottinghamshire.pcc.police.uk.

The commissioner has identified seven priority areas in his plan, which as well as reducing crime, centre on making efficient use of taxpayers’ money and protecting, supporting and responding to victims, witnesses and vulnerable people.

The plan is closely linked to the budget for 2013-14 and the amount of council tax paid towards policing by local people. Proposals for the precept and budget will go to the Police and Crime Panel on 6th February.
