PICS: Notts homes hit by flooding nightmare

This is the scene of yesterday's flooding in Rainworth as heavy rains hit Notts.

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to Tudor Crescent in the village near Mansfield with reports that floodwater had entered homes and caused damage to the interiors.

In these images we show the level of flooding as residents trudged through water at knee-height, and fire services battling the tide of water to protect houses and minimise damage.

Vinny Baker, of Tudor Crescent said flooding hit a number of homes on the street although his own home luckily escaped damage.

He added that residents were blaming the neighbouring housing development for causing extra runoff, and claims the builders have not done enough to negate the issue.

He said: "I was fortunate that our house not affected by flooding but the people opposite have had water in their kitchen and their lounge, and a number of houses behind them have had the same.

"There's a lot of anger at the new build due to the water running off the development."

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters from Blidworth attended two flooding related incidents in the Rainworth area last night (Wednesday, June 15 ) after some heavy rain hit the area.

A spokesman said: "The first call came in at 7.52pm and involved flooding at properties on St Peters Drive, Rainworth.

"Crews used a light portable pump to move water – which had also begun to enter a garage - away from the buildings to ensure no electrics were endangered.

"Another call then came in shortly after this incident had been dealt with at 8.29pm. This involved flooding at five properties on Rochester Road, (off Tudor Crescent), Rainworth.

"Firefighters used one major pump, one light portable pump and hose reels to clear water from the properties again to ensure electrics were not endangered. Shovels and buckets were also used in this incident, which had been dealt with by 9.47pm.

"Nobody was injured in either incident."

Developers Taylor and Wimpey were not available for comment.
