Paralympic silver-medallist Charlotte Henshaw is set to unveil a plaque in celebration of a £68,000 improvement project at a community centre.

Mansfield born Charlotte will be joining the community at St Peter’s centre in Churchside to celebrate completed roof repairs and improvements made to the building.

The new watertight roof is expected to put an end to disruption caused by the old roof which leaked into the building and had been in a poor condition for over six years.

Dave Barnes, chairman of the management of the committee at the centre, said the new roof is fantastic news for the community.

He added: “This work has enabled up to hire our facilities to the community in the confidence that even in poor weather the activities will be able to continue without disruption. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of making this project happen.”

During particularly bad weather community groups such as Scouts, youth groups and Guides had to be relocated after a couple of the first floor community rooms were closed.

Funding for the project has come from St. Peter’s Church and The Veolia Environmental Trust who awarded a grant of £34,000 through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Executive Director of the Veolia Environmental Trust McNabb Laurie added: “It is great to hear the roof work has now been completed, and the community are once again able to make the most of the facilities available at the popular centre.”

The event will be taking place on Saturday 13th October where there will be a wide range of local craft stalls between 10am and 2pm.
