Nominations sought for NHS Trust’s council of governors
RESIDENTS in Mansfield and Ashfield have just over a week to put themselves forward to be a public governor at the trust that runs King’s Mill Hospital.
Elections are being held at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 15 public governors and seven staff governors.
The Council of Governors works with the Trust Board of Directors as a ‘critical friend’, helping to shape the way the Trust develops its services.
Trust members will be voting throughout March, with successful candidates taking up post from 1st May.
Anyone wanting to be a governor does not need any special skills or qualifications but does need to be a member of the foundation trust, which people can sign up for by emailing membership.sherwoodforest@sfh-tr.nhs.uk.
A Trust spokesman said: “The most important requirement is enthusiasm and the willingness to represent not just your own views but also the views of the people in your community or staff group that you represent.
“You do not need to have any previous knowledge of the NHS, as training will be given where necessary and there will always be people available to give advice and support.”
Nomination forms have to be returned by 15th February and are available by calling Mansfield 622515 ext 3570, emailing governors@sfh-tr.nhs.uk or downloading one from www.sfh-tr.nhs.uk.
Four governors are needed from Ashfield, Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood, plus two from Derbyshire and one from the rest of the East Midlands.
More information about the role can be obtained at informal sessions where current governors or members of the Trust’s Executive team will be able to ask questions.
These are being held on:
Thursday 31st January - 10am-12 noon at Lecture Theatre 2, Education Centre, King’s Mill Hospital
Tuesday 5th February - 2pm-4pm at the Customer Services Meeting Room, Level 1, Kings Treatment Centre (above main Entrance), King’s Mill Hospital
Wednesday 6th February - 2pm-4pm at Lecture Theatre 1, Education Centre, King’s Mill Hospital
If you want to attend one of the sessions you need to confirm your attendance with Carol Green on Mansfield 622515 ext 3570 or by email to governors@sfh-tr.nhs.uk.
